If you have SQL server setup on your machine and the Northwind database then this example should work for you. You may have to change the password for the sa account as it's blank in the example.

Click here to copy the following block
Dim strSQL As String

strSQL = "Insert into Employees(lastname,firstname) values('Al','Coholic')"

Dim objcommand As New SqlClient.SqlCommand(strSQL, New _
  SqlClient.SqlConnection("server=localhost;database=Northwind;uid=sa;pwd=;"))

objcommand.Connection.Open()
objcommand.ExecuteNonQuery()
objcommand.Connection.Close()

objcommand.Dispose()
objcommand = Nothing
